It is sometimes necessary for Scorpion to refer a Scorpion policyholder to an independent attorney. Scorpion has a large panel of attorneys throughout South Africa. This usually occurs when the policyholder has a legal problem that must be heard in court, or which matter requires the services of a practising lawyer. These are often cases where a member has been charged with committing an offence (a criminal matter) and/or civil disputes (litigation).
When a Scorpion policyholder is referred to an independent attorney, he or she would need to follow our formal claims procedure to determine whether the legal fees will be covered by his policy. If the matter is covered Scorpion will arrange payment of the legal fees with the attorney directly.
Scorpion will only pay the attorney in accordance with our Scorpion tariffs.
