Our members often ask us about their policy terms and conditions, as well as our processes and procedures. This regular feature is where we will answer some of your questions.
Can Scorpion help me in the event of an accident if I don’t have car insurance?
Yes, depending on your chosen policy, a Scorpion lawyer will defend you in the case of an accident. If the accident was your fault, the lawyer will work hard to negotiate the best possible settlement on your behalf with the other party or their lawyer. If the accident was
not your fault, we will demand from the other party that they repair your car or compensate you for your loss – even if it means going to court.
Can I choose my own lawyer or must I use one of Scorpion’s panel lawyers?
You can choose your own lawyer, but bear in mind that you may have to pay extra, as we only pay the Scorpion panel lawyers according to our Schedule of Tariffs. We also won’t be able to guarantee the quality of their work, as we don’t have a service level agreement (SLA) with them.
What does it mean if my legal matter predates cover?
It means that your legal matter happened before you were covered by a Scorpion policy. Because legal insurance is similar to car or house insurance, you can’t claim for things that happened before you joined. If your matter predates cover, Scorpion can still advise and assist you paralegally.
