By now, we are all aware of the enormous impact social media has had on us as individuals and on our society as a whole. This has both advantages and disadvantages. Whether you’re using Facebook, X, Instagram, WhatsApp, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Viber or Snapchat, it’s never been easier to damage your personal brand beyond repair. To help you keep your online persona on the right track, we’ve put together a few dos and don’ts to guide you in the digital world.
Everyone’s watching!
Only post things on social media that you’re comfortable can be seen by the entire world, including your boss and your grandmother.
Be smart!
Don’t post anything that jokes about violence, destruction of property, terrorism and the like as this can be used as evidence should anything bad happen.
Be nice!
Never post or share anything that could harm someone else’s dignity or reputation – you CAN be sued for
damages.
Stay safe!
Be the champion of your own security online. Never give out your personal information and ensure that your
security settings are up-to-date.
Keep confidential!
Don't post anything that is confidential, such as your medical records, information about court proceedings or
indecent pictures.
Stay sober!
Avoid posting things on social media if you’ve had one or two too many drinks as you may very well say things you would never say if you were sober.
