We discuss what responsibilities your landlord and you have to maintain after reporting.
Can your landlord refuse to repair or maintain the property you're renting if you lodge a complaint with the Rental Housing Tribunal? No. Both the tenant and the landlord must still abide by the law. After a complaint has been lodged, until the date of the Tribunal’s ruling, the:
- landlord may not evict the tenant;
- tenant must continue to pay the rent; and
- landlord must continue to maintain and/or repair the property.
