Applicable to Policy A, B and C & Platinum
1. The Occupation Extender Addendum is available to Teachers, Health Care Professionals, and Enforcement Officers, and is subject to the terms of the Main Membership Agreement, except as modified in Your Schedule of Insurance and below, and while Your Membership is Paid-Up.
a) "Teacher" means a person employed as a permanent or temporary teacher of a private or public school or tertiary institution.
b) "Health Care Professional" excludes a medical practitioner and means a person who is employed to provide preventative, curative or rehabilitative health care services to the public and has a qualification from a University, University of Technology or College, is a registered member of a regulated Healthcare Body in the RSA and is authorised by law to provide the services mentioned.
c) "Enforcement Officer" means a person employed as a permanent Law Enforcement Officer in the South African Police Services, Metro Police Services, Department of Correctional Services, National Defence Force, or a Security Company registered as a member with the relevant industry body.
2. The Main Member can take out an Occupation Extender for an additional premium. A spouse can also be added for an additional premium, but both occupations must qualify under clause 1 above. Your Schedule of Insurance will reflect the premium/s for the member and spouse.
3. In consideration of the premium in force for this Addendum from time to time, the following Relevant Events (excluded in the Main Membership Terms), are included, subject to the conditions of this Addendum and all the other conditions in the Main Membership Agreement:
a) Your DEFAMATION, INSULT, VERBAL ABUSE, OR ANY OTHER INFRINGEMENT of Your personality, reputation, or dignity during the course and scope of Your employment as a Health Care Professional, Teacher, or Enforcement Officer.
b) You are entitled to the increased Maximum Limit for any matter listed in Section 4 and not excluded in Section 6 of the Main Membership Agreement, provided the Relevant Event occurred during the course and scope of Your duties as a Teacher, Health Care Professional or enforcement Officer.
4. In addition to the insured matters above, the following Emotional Support and Counselling Services are available to You:
a) Emotional Support and Counselling Services provided by suitably qualified professionals (including counsellors), appointed and / or approved by us. (Not psychological or psychiatric) for:
• Marital conflicts
• Family-related challenges
• Grief and bereavement
• Various forms of abuse
• Stress management
• Child behaviour issues
Conditions and Restrictions
a) The Relevant Events in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS in 3 above must happen after the Waiting Period shown in Your Schedule of Insurance.
b) This Insurance benefit:
- Under 3 a) is in Our sole discretion and may be withdrawn any time.
- The benefits under 3 a) and 3 b) are available only to the Main Member and if selected as an option, the Main Member's Spouse.
c) We will only pay Your legal expenses for action in the Lower Divisions and the Magistrate's Court Regional Division.
d) Legal expenses for an appeal will be paid only if Your Lawyer confirmed in writing, before starting the appeal process, that You had a better chance than not of succeeding with Your appeal.
e) You are entitled to the Insurance benefit under Clause 2 of this Addendum a maximum number of times in every continuous period of Paid-Up premiums for this Addendum. The Maximum Number of Times and Continuous Period are shown in Your Schedule of Insurance.
f) The Maximum Limit for this Addendum is reflected in Your Schedule of Insurance.
h) Conditions for Accessing Emotional Support and Counselling Services, include:
• During the consultation, a Scorpion Legal Counsellor will assess Your needs. If Emotional Support and Counselling Services are required, the matter will be referred to the Scorpion Community Connection Department, which acts as a gatekeeper between Scorpion and Our appointed service provider.
• The Community Connection Department will assess whether the matter qualifies for Emotional Support and Counselling services and, if applicable, refer the case to the provider.
• Direct contact with the service provider is not permitted; all referrals must go through the Community Connection Department.
• You are entitled to the number of virtual sessions per matter per annum as reflected in Your Schedule of Insurance, which may include WhatsApp, telephonic, or virtual meeting consultations. Additional consultations will incur a fee, payable directly by You.
• It is essential to honour scheduled appointments. Failure to attend without a valid reason may result in termination of access to this benefit.
